Info Coche: Spain Car Check

Thinking of buying a used car in Spain? Do a car check first: see what its official record says before you decide.

Info Coche gives you the vehicle history that Spain holds on any registered car, in English. Start with a plate number, see what is free, and request the official DGT report for the full picture: owners, mileage, liens and the Spanish MOT (ITV) history.

FREE WITH A PLATE NUMBER
• Approximate registration date and province
• DGT environmental label (0, ECO, C or B) and what it means for low emission zones (ZBE)
• The latest plate in Spain: the newest plate number published, updated daily
• Tax value: the official valuation used for the transfer tax (ITP), from the latest tables of Spain's Official State Gazette (BOE)
• An estimate of the transfer tax by region

THE OFFICIAL DGT VEHICLE REPORT
Request the full vehicle report from Spain's traffic authority (Dirección General de Tráfico, DGT) for any vehicle. It arrives by email, usually within seconds, day or night.
• Ownership history and number of previous owners
• Mileage recorded at ITV inspections, to spot a clocked odometer
• Charges, liens and seizures: the things that can follow a car to its next owner
• Full technical data
• MOT history: every ITV (Spain's MOT) inspection with its date, result and odometer reading, plus the current MOT status
• The vehicle's VIN (chassis number) as recorded by the DGT
• Insurance status
• De-registrations and re-registrations

IN ENGLISH, WITH THE ORIGINAL ALONGSIDE
Choose English for the report and you get two PDFs: the official DGT document, unchanged, and a translated, annotated version that explains what each item means. The translation is for information only and has no official value; the original is the document that counts.

TAX VALUE AND TRANSFER TAX
Look up the tax value of any make and model from the official BOE tables, with the depreciation for the age of the vehicle. It is the base of Spain's used-car transfer tax (ITP): pick a region and estimate the tax for the sale.

COMPARE ENGINES AND SPECIFICATIONS
Search by make and model and compare engine size, power, fuel type (diesel, petrol, electric) and years of manufacture. Thousands of makes and models.
