This app definitely surprised me. Most bug identifier apps either require a payment to use the app, get the bug species entirely wrong, or both. This app is actually free to use; you are limited to 2 identifications per day, but with how accurate it is, I'd say that's reasonable. There is an option to pay for unlimited scans per day. Also, when you scan the bug it not only tells you what it is, but it tells you information about it, like where it lives or if it is harmful.

So far this app is great ! My only complaint is that you only get 2 scans then have to wait like 9 hours. Im fine with having limited scans but only 2 is kinda absurd like they're trying too hard to get you to buy the subscription. But otherwise it's been mostly accurate besides one moth which was kind of my fault (photo of the side of the moth instead of straight down) and I do like the little quiz they have.

Awesome and helpful. Found a bug in the house, and it quickly identified it. Thanks so much. Now if only I could do that for code ....

Failed to identify Spice bush Swallowtail caterpillar with a perfect photo. Identified it as a hawk moth even though it doesn't have a horn. Grouped all Praying Mantids together as one group rather than breaking out a Chinese Mantis specifically. Uninstalled.

Neat idea, but app did not register permission to access files & media to retrieve images from gallery. Basic functionality doesn't work. I granted permission while in the app, & it didn't register. I closed the app, toggled permission off and back on directly in settings, & it still didn't register. The only permission it didn't have been microphone permissions, & I toggled that on too. Still didn't work. Used a competitor's app asking for same permissions immediately afterward successfully.

Misidentified the very first insect I attempted to identify. Using Gemini, Google's AI, I was able to successfully identify the insect. I've used other identification apps that have a feature where a community of bug lovers can submit their photos to a member supplied image database. And submit corrections to identifications as well. Unfortunately, no such feature is available with this app. My photo was incredibly clear and captured the entire insect. I will not be going past my 3-day trial.
