Description
The sound of Grasshoppers and Crickets (Orthoptera) singing epitomises warm summer days. However, Orthoptera and related insects are not well recorded in the UK and so scientists have little information about their distribution and abundance. This information is vital for us to discern changes in population or distribution due to changes in the environment such as land use and climate change.
This guide will make it easy for you to identify and record the grasshoppers and crickets you find. The app features lots of information about each species, high quality image galleries and also sound files of each vocal species so that you can identify them by call.
The app also features associated insects such as the earwigs, stick insects and cockroaches.
Recent changes: Full app upgrade. Updated species information. Improved user interface. Added probability dataset. Made the app more secure.

Love that this great app has finally been updated completely and works again. All the new photos, information and functionality is great. The only way it could be improved further is to offer sound ID like the Merlin app for birds; many older people cannot hear grasshoppers and crickets. I will be sharing with fellow wildlife nerds!

Excellent fun! Get involved in citizen science and upload your photos and ID your species. I use a book and the app to ID. It loads of fun, and a great excuse to get out and rummage in the grass!

Really enjoying taking part Great to contribute data. Wish there was an option to add a record as 'unknown' species for all those sightings you just can't pin down the ID for.

Used to work but on galaxy A40 Android 9 can't see any info so useless. No response from the contact email in the app.

Doesn't work on newer Android versions (cannot open species info). Last update on 2015 so the app sadly doesn't seem to be maintained by the developers anymore.

Doesn't work on a Galaxy S8. Tried it a few months ago and just now, I would have thought they'd have sorted it out by now, so totally useless
