Description
The J4T (Jaytronix 4-Tracker) is a compact recording studio, designed to easily capture your song ideas, demos and sound-sketches. A ideal tool for songwriters, rappers, and other creative musicians!
The interface is inspired by the original 4-track recorders, enhanced with options for basic audio editing, loading music from your music collection, and exporting your audiomix to a regular file that you can share and use with other apps.
Recording is pretty simple:
- Swipe left and open a session (a session = a project with 4 tracks) - Press Track-1 'REC' and start recording.
Or:
- Press Track-1/Import and load a beat, rhythm, or bassline from your music collection - Plug in headphones - Press Track-2 'REC' and sing, rap, or play over the beat of Track 1 sounding in the headphones.
Want to use your audiomix with other apps? Share it with friends, or with co-creators? Just use the 'Create WAV/MP3' option to save the mix to a regular audio file.

Please note:
* J4T files are saved on the phone, NOT in the cloud. So if you move to a new phone, first make a backup of the J4T folder, and transfer it to the new phone.
* When recording, you can hear the other tracks through the headphones, but live/input monitoring is not yet supported.
* Support for USB devices (external mic, audio interface) depends on your phone. Sometimes it's a matter of finding the right settings, and sometimes it just doesn't work - in that case send an email to find a solution.

Great, simple four-track recorder with no social media component! I wanted a simple sketch pad for song ideas that behaved closely to an old cassette four-track recorder, and this does a great job of that. Things to know-tracks can be either mono or stereo, and track bouncing can be done, like on a cassette. Developer is incredibly responsive to questions and feedback, thanks! Works on my Samsung S10 with a Pres onus audio box 96. Individual tracks export fine to pro tools.

This 4 track recorder is super simple to use and works well. I use it for making pretty basic recordings using real instruments, so I'm not at all interested in all the samples etc. that come with most recording apps. This one has none of those, and basically replicates an old-fashioned 4 track tape recorder, with a few extra features (e.g. align audio, looping, effects, editing). It has worked well for me for several years and I love its simplicity.

UPDATE: August 2026 This app has sadly gone downhill. 75% of the time recording tracks don't even register, the sound quality hasn't improved and the biggest issue is the EXTREME latency - it's impossible to create any projects. Searching for new app. WHY is the playback sound so harsh?! Am I doing something wrong? It sounds HORRIBLE. Just high-pitched static noise. Is it me or is it this app? I can't even use this for more than one track if it's going to sound like this!

Didn't sync tracks just using headphones when I used the sync setup button. When I did it without headphones it worked in sync. Unplug headphones to do sync.

I'm confused to see so many positive reviews. There's about a half a second delay in the playback of other tracks when recording a track. The only way to line up the timing is to turn on the metronome and turn down the volume on all the other tracks. This is a weird and fundamental design flaw that makes the app close to unusable.
