Jangseung Guard is a circular defense game based on Korean folklore: a village totem holds off yokai coming from every side. No ads appear in the middle of a run.
Deep in the night, the villagers carved a jangseung, a wooden guardian totem, and the five elements settled in it: wood, fire, earth, metal and water. The totem attacks on its own; you tap one of five talismans to change its element and weapon. The element that overcomes the current wave deals double damage, the wrong one only half, and the next wave's element is shown in advance.
Spend the coins you earn on attack, speed, health and regeneration. Between waves pick one of three skill cards: pine needles, binding vines, fire arrows, orbiting will-o'-wisps, tremors, an earthen wall, a freezing bell, an iron axe, splashes and mist. Pick a skill again to level it up until it awakens.
Defeat the wave-30 boss to defend each place, from the pine village to the ferry, the market, the mountain fortress and the royal palace, then keep going into endless palace tiers. Every run pays fortune for 12 permanent upgrades, skills you use gain mastery, and five guardians unlock along the way. After a few runs the Yokai Hunt opens: beat an element-shifting boss in 60 seconds to win 11 relics. Fill the 13-yokai bestiary, play the Daily Waves and finish daily requests.
The yokai are cute takes on folk tales, and they scatter like smoke with no blood. The totem keeps patrolling while you are away, so fortune piles up.
The game is free and supported by ads. A rewarded ad plays only when you tap a bonus button such as doubled patrol fortune, doubled run fortune, a skill re-roll or a starting blessing, and the game progresses the same if you never watch one. Every few runs an interstitial ad may appear after you tap "Defend again" on the result window, never during a run. There are no in-app purchases.
