Use copy/pasting, open it from sd card or load from an URL to get the JSON into the app, then you can use the auto-format function or remove whitespaces. At any time you can switch to tree-view to see the structure of your data. Also you can now view JSON files sent as e-mail attachments.

Do you have an SD card? Is this a joke? I try to open a file and that's the error I get. I have 32GB of internal storage and I can't open a file from there.

Wow! Unusable. I have an sdcard, yet it wouldn't read it. So, I couldn't save work. Crashed every time I tried to format because entries were not surrounded by quotes. When I did quote entries and press format it pulled up the default json object that the app starts with.

Won't open files Useless for me; like other reviewers, on my 4.4.4 phone it just claims there's no SD card.
