Comments on K-9 Mail for Android
★★★★★
Used this app for many years until the past gmail auth issues, which were fixed. However, I had already switched to Blue Mail, but that app had odd repeatable crashes w certain email accts & configurations. Switched back to K-9 after hearing it is now under Mozilla. All generally very good & configurable w K-9 Mail. Would like one enhancement, however, because of my multiple email accts: Add an option so that I can choose to keep all emails from specified accts from showing in the Unified view.
★★★★★
Finally, got fed up with the Gmail client and based on using Thunderbird on the desktop went for K-9 after some cursory research into my options. So far not disappointed. Straightforward configuration (I have a slightly non-standard email setup, so I'm always into manual config whatever client I use). Simply does what it says. Any quirks (e.g. partial email downloads) have been simple config updates to resolve. Loving it and so far don't understand its poor star rating - long may that last!
★★★★★
Works perfectly with multiple accounts. Doesn't do anything fancy with my inbox, just serves up email like it should.
★★☆☆☆
I really like it and works with Alias emails. Send and receive works but one big issue. No notifications because it doesn't check mail automatically, the only way I see new mail is to open the app and manually refresh. That's a dealbreaker making it useless. That's disappointing.
★★☆☆☆
Simple and easy menus and interface with only the most needed features. However, outdated and illogical menus and interface. All subfolders are displayed. They can't be collapsed. With many subfolders you have to scroll a lot. Strangely, multiple email accounts are collapsed. This menu has to be opened to check the email accounts. The interface and menus need a complete overhaul.
★★☆☆☆
Displays some parts of your email. I can not in good faith recommend this app. I finally got fed up with the insane defaults, and actively hiding information from me. Worst offenders are hiding the participant's email address from me, and only showing the name they chose to for themselves. This allows malicious actors to more effectively phish people. And hiding the full email text, including headers from me. There's a button to show headers hidden somewhere, but it only displays a subset. Bad.
★★☆☆☆
Had to stop using, it was becoming a massive battery drain (easily using 25% or more of my battery on a charge). Not sure what's wrong with its IMAP support in regards to checking mail, but it doesn't work. Also, UI is slow on an S23 Ultra and shouldn't be. New mail client more performant on much less battery.
★★☆☆☆
Good for so long... Now mail doesn't delete. I don't have an OUTBOX apparently (with no in app configuration), just disappointing. Oh, did I mention, all the important folders got reassigned (Sent, Spam, Trash, Drafts) to saved folders. UTTERLY LUDICROUS. I can now "Empty Trash" on my Finance folder.
★★☆☆☆
Notifications/background sync is not working for me, new mail only appears when I open the app and sync manually
