Garmin bought the Ultimate Campgrounds app to use exclusively on their devices and I have been looking for an app to recommend to friends as a replacement. Kampnik is it! I still have access to the UC app since I paid for it and I have been comparing the two. I always thought the UC app was the best one ever but Kampnik is an equal to it if not better. Kampnik color codes the icons on the map according to the category which is a better feature. Definitely the best campground app available.

This app should be used in a computer science course on "How to Make a Really Wonderful App Completely Unusable.". I've recommended it dozens of times, but now, rather than create a filter to let campers choose between "Reservable Sites" and "Non-Reservable Sites," Kampnik shoves a linked Website into our faces from Recreation.gov that constantly says "Oops, something went wrong! Please bear with us. " When I click on a campsite for viewing. I've seen more "bears" in this app than camping.

This started as a grand experiment and a labor of love for the developer, but devolved when a bad decision to 'throw in' with Recreation. Gov led to the loss of the database integrity. I attempted to contact the developer (but the Website was gone) to tell them that Recreation. Gov was sending me to a non-existent NFS campground based on a misspelling of a campground 200 miles away. It's too bad.

Just got started on this app. At first, to test its mettle, I tried looking up camps I've been to (mostly remote undeveloped camps that I prefer) and so far its mixed results. I don't see any way to submit a newly "discovered" camp via this app, nor any instructions on how to do so. Also, some camps don't have much info or photos, and there's no way to load those up either for a visual. So far, a mediocre app. I'll be looking around for another option.
