Old Norse is an ancient language, it is also known as the Viking language, or the Northern Germanic language.
Learning Old Norse made easy
• Set your daily goal, whether you are a casual learner or an expert learner, the application will let you know if you are at risk of losing your streak!
• Memorize and improve your vocabulary by marking a sentence or phrase as a favourite, or correct your mistakes by exercising any errors.
• Manually enter the word with your keyboard for extra difficulty, this can help you memorize the spelling of the words a lot faster, you can also click on any word to learn more (requires an internet connection).
• Earn gems to show off your progress to friends, or exchange them for hints, useful for when you're stuck with a word or phrase.
• Challenge yourself further by listening to the words or phrases before looking at the answers with support for reading aloud the sentences.
• Adjust and change how much you would like to learn in one course by increasing or decreasing the lessons per course, useful for longer sessions but shorter sessions allow for more frequent progress updates - the choice is yours.
• English translation is displayed under the Old Norse words and phrases, so you can quickly learn what every sentence means without losing immersion.

Rather intuitive. It's hard to say which app is the best. They tend to use different methods that don't work universally for everyone. But this works for me. Slow and fast speech makes it easy to understand while reading. I've used Rosetta Stone, duolingo, etc. Old norse is my 5th language. I also speak French, Norwegian, and I'm learning icelandic. That really helps with old norse, being so closely related. Worth the $4! Tu sen takk! Heill ok glaðr, vinr minn.

I love everything about this app, but I think it would help a lot to have written pronunciation. Sometimes I get confused with what I'm hearing vs what I'm seeing, and seeing the pronunciation written out would help a lot.

It has a lot of potential but doesn't really support you on the basics, there is very little useful support with things like sentence structure for a beginner, and it doesn't really test you it gives you the answer on the multiple choice quiz before you've given your answer. In short I'd give it a couple of years

Trying to memorize random sentences doesn't seem to be the best approach. Improve the curriculum and I'll give 5 stars. I am so grateful for this app either way.... edit: this is all modern Icelandic, isn't it? None of the words from the Old Norse Hávamál I look up are in the dictionary. I'm not absolutely sure it's modern Icelandic, otherwise I'd give it 1 star because that's lying to advertise this as Old Norse. I'm going to research further and report the app if it is. shame on you.
