Description
⭐ 4.7 stars from 45,000+ reviews. Trusted by language learners worldwide.
LingQ is the language learning method that gets you fluent — by reading and listening to real content you actually enjoy, not textbook drills or gamified exercises.
Learn Spanish, English, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese, Arabic, and 45+ more languages.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 📖 THE LINGQ METHOD — WHY IT WORKS ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
LingQ is built on comprehensible input — the science-backed idea that we acquire language the same way we learned our first language: by understanding meaningful content at our level, not memorizing rules.
Instead of lessons and drills, you immerse yourself in real stories, podcasts, books, and videos. You encounter words in context, look them up instantly, and naturally absorb the language over time. This is language immersion that actually fits into your life.
LingQ was co-founded by Steve Kaufmann, a polyglot who has learned 20+ languages using this exact approach.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🆚 HOW LINGQ IS DIFFERENT ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Unlike Duolingo, Babbel, or Rosetta Stone, LingQ doesn't rely on gamification, repetitive drills, or synthetic sentences. Instead:
✅ You learn from REAL content — podcasts, books, YouTube, Netflix ✅ You choose topics you love — sports, history, comedy, true crime ✅ You build vocabulary from context — not flashcard lists ✅ You progress through immersion — not streaks or XP points
If you've plateaued with other language learning apps, LingQ is the next step.

I recommend it to everyone interested in learning a language. The only thing not present that I think would be useful is the ability to translate and prepare a lesson from any language into the target language if you need to learn specific words in the language you're learning for example a training video from work, but it's great with the ability to import lessons from YouTube you can fit language learning into whatever your interest at the time is.

LingQ is the most awesome app for language learning ever! The true exposition to any content the user likes to really enhances user's ability to get a hold onto anything. After meeting LingQ my language learning comprehension skyrocketed.

I love using LingQ to learn vocabulary in context, read more, and understand content in my target languages. One downside is that I cannot import video files (only videos hosted on YouTube, for example).

Unimpressed. The free version with the 20 Lings when no instructions are provided for telling you that if you tap a word (even a simple word) that it is added to your list is poor. You should provide a training lesson to use the app, then reset the 20. At least I have Babel for life and the DuoLingo subscription can include up to 6 people, even if it's not ideal. This is overpriced for what it is. Paying to listen to Stromal and read the lyrics is silly. I can do that for free.

Even after deleting all lings I made in the hopes I can continue using the free tier, I'm still told that "Free accounts are limited to 20 Lings". Does that mean that after reaching the lingq limit, deleting them will not reset the limit? I really wanted to like this app, but I find the free tier to be too aggressively restrictive, which leaves me with no option but to look for alternatives. I'd be open to change my mind if I could have complete control of all 20 free lings as advertised.

It blows my mind how cool and also how terribly buggy and amateur the polish still is on this app even after all these years. It's gotten worse. Fumigant doesn't display over the kanji and mine randomly shows, Russian, Korean etc. over the kanji, madness. Highlighting sentences is still an ungodly unusable nightmare. In the listener if you click a word quick for definition you can't return to listener, have to go back to read and click listener then find your place again. List goes on...
