Description
⭐ 4.7 stars from 45,000+ reviews. Trusted by language learners worldwide.
LingQ is the language learning method that gets you fluent — by reading and listening to real content you actually enjoy, not textbook drills or gamified exercises.
Learn Spanish, English, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese, Arabic, and 45+ more languages.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 📖 THE LINGQ METHOD — WHY IT WORKS ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
LingQ is built on comprehensible input — the science-backed idea that we acquire language the same way we learned our first language: by understanding meaningful content at our level, not memorizing rules.
Instead of lessons and drills, you immerse yourself in real stories, podcasts, books, and videos. You encounter words in context, look them up instantly, and naturally absorb the language over time. This is language immersion that actually fits into your life.
LingQ was co-founded by Steve Kaufmann, a polyglot who has learned 20+ languages using this exact approach.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🆚 HOW LINGQ IS DIFFERENT ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Unlike Duolingo, Babbel, or Rosetta Stone, LingQ doesn't rely on gamification, repetitive drills, or synthetic sentences. Instead:
✅ You learn from REAL content — podcasts, books, YouTube, Netflix ✅ You choose topics you love — sports, history, comedy, true crime ✅ You build vocabulary from context — not flashcard lists ✅ You progress through immersion — not streaks or XP points
If you've plateaued with other language learning apps, LingQ is the next step.

The best resource for language learning I've found! I have been using AI to generate custom materials at my level in subjects in interested in. lingq then creates audio for me and generates flashcards for words I don't know as I read. It has been revolutionary for me. My only issues: 1. It's expensive. 2. You cannot choose the speed of the audio you add to a lesson. For a beginner-friendly speed you have to slow it down after audio generation which creates distortion.

Translations are unnecessarily annoying, why can't you just introduce the option to show the sentence translation right below without having to translate sentence by sentence? Also, when the audio is playing, and you click on the "view sentence" button, it translates/selects a previous sentence, not the one that's being said by the audio.

Huge time saver. Makes everything easier. Don't have to look all over the place for content to read.

The lifetime subscription for one language, at around $220, was expensive but within 3 days after paying I'd studied over 10 hours so to me, it was worth it. After 166 days of using this app I went from 0 knowledge of Italian to Advanced 1 and am now able to watch The Sopranos in Italian dub/sub and read Fahrenheit 451 in Italian. I import movie subtitles and watch along, import books and news articles etc.

Unimpressed. The free version with the 20 Lings when no instructions are provided for telling you that if you tap a word (even a simple word) that it is added to your list is poor. You should provide a training lesson to use the app, then reset the 20. At least I have Babel for life and the DuoLingo subscription can include up to 6 people, even if it's not ideal. This is overpriced for what it is. Paying to listen to Stromal and read the lyrics is silly. I can do that for free.

The free version is too limited. You are induced to choose 20 words that you can't change later unless you pay.

It blows my mind how cool and also how terribly buggy and amateur the polish still is on this app even after all these years. It's gotten worse. Fumigant doesn't display over the kanji and mine randomly shows, Russian, Korean etc. over the kanji, madness. Highlighting sentences is still an ungodly unusable nightmare. In the listener if you click a word quick for definition you can't return to listener, have to go back to read and click listener then find your place again. List goes on...

Premium voices I paid for don't work. Even selecting a free voice doesn't work.

It's weird. The latest update is supposed to fix or improve the accessibility, right? However, I'm a Talk Back user, and after the update, I can't interact with the text. Before the update, as long as I have the TTS voice for the language, Talk Back would read the text. To sum up, the recent update renders the app unusable for Talk Back users.
