You can view the historic ship lift in the museum. The Henrichenburg ship lift is a technical monument and was a key structure on the Dortmund-Ems Canal. It bridges a height difference of 14.5 metres and was a lift for ships. Only when it was completed in 1899 could the canal be navigated as far as Dortmund harbour. The ship lift was the first of its kind in the world. It is the largest structure on the Dortmund-Ems Canal. This masterpiece of technical engineering is still a popular destination today.

In the permanent exhibition, you will learn a lot about the history of the ship lift and the world of inland waterway navigation. You can try things and experiment at interactive stations. You will also learn how the ship lift works and why it is such an important technical structure.
The museum also has a large outdoor area around the canal. You can learn about the waterways and the museum ships on two levels. You can enter two museum ships and visit exhibitions there. There are also changing exhibitions in the harbour building on the upper reach. There is also a sand playground and a large water playground for children.
You can get something to eat and drink in the Gastrobus on the lower reach. The app also provides information on accessibility, for example details on stairs, ramps and the elevator. You will also find information on opening hours, directions and admission charges in the app, as well as a link to the website.
