MAME4droid (Current) is a powerful Android port of the MAME 0.288 emulator (by MAMEDev and contributors), developed by David Valdeita (Seleuco). It supports over 40,000 different ROMs and emulates classic arcade systems along with home computers like ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, and MSX.

🚀 Performance & Hardware While MAME is known for being demanding, this version includes modern optimizations for mobile hardware:
*arm64 DRC (Dynamic Recompiler): Recent versions now feature a dedicated 64-bit ARMv8 recompiler (DRC). This provides a massive performance boost for complex systems (like K. Instinct or CPS-3), allowing them to run much faster than in older, legacy emulators. *Requirements: Despite these optimizations, a high-end Android device is still recommended for the most demanding 90s-era 3D arcade games to achieve full speed.
🛠️ Recommended Setup (External Storage) For the best experience and to save internal storage, it is recommended to store your ROMs on external storage using Android's Scoped Storage system.
First-Time Installation Guide: 1.- Prepare your external storage: Create a folder named MAME4droid (or any name you prefer) on your SD card or internal memory. 2.- Initial Launch: Open the app for the first time. 3.- Path Selection: When asked "Where do you have stored or want to store your roms files?", select EXTERNAL STORAGE. 4.- Grant Permission: The Android file picker will open. Navigate to your external storage, select the folder you created, and tap "Use this folder". Tap Allow to give MAME4droid permission to access that directory. 5.- Romset Version: Ensure you are using the latest romset for compatibility.
Note: If you already installed it, you can change the path in Options > Settings > General > Change ROMs path.

It's a really good app. I use it primarily on my S4 tablet and runs well. To people leaving bad reviews saying no games are included lol you have to source the roms yourself and learn about emulation. Great app very happy.

10/10 AWESOME EMULATOR! High compatibility, well maintained with the main branch of mame, and offers very smooth gameplay for high to mid-range phones! The only thing I would like to see fixed in the future is Virtual Racing emulation, because even though it works well on PC, it doesn't render the track on Android! All in all, great emulator, and highly recommended if you want some arcade action! EDIT: VIRTUA RACING IS FINALLY FIXED, THANK YOU!! I DON'T NEED TO DEAL WITH THE STANKY 32X PORT!!!

I have a few Emulators (3 consoles) on my phone, no problem creating a folder for my roms and telling the Emulator app where to look. This app asks me for some wild path I can't create. I think I gotta connect my phone to a pc. ended up deleting it and sticking to my consoles

I use the other app solely for the net play and this kept plugging in, so I installed it, and it had no net play :(, one way to implement replay would be to have the game run on host and stream the video over to the client and send the input to the host, kind of clunky but with a hotspot 5ghz you can get this down to 5-20ms latency.

Two issue I have. One I can't stop the menu from popping up when I touch the screen even though every option for it is disabled. Cannot play light gun games with the touch feature because the menu just high jacks everything. The second is there's a zero way to set up the second analog stick for games that need it. It sets it as just buttons instead of another analog. This needs to be fixed.

Does not work. I have 2 Game&Watch games (e.g. gnw_octopus) with roms and artwork .zip files that work on MAME desktop (0.264). I put the .zip files in a mame folder on external storage and configure the app to use that folder but no game was listed. The app thinks that Octopus is unavailable.

Too complex I struggle to even load a game I saved on a folder I really don't understand the interface, and in new android is not possible to access android/data folder UI is not very friendly imo, so I end up uninstalling and trying something else
