The official adaptation of Alexander Pfister's award-winning strategy board game for 1 to 4 players.
Play as an adventurer and sail around the Caribbean! Upgrade your ship, complete quests, and engage in combat. Every card you buy will unlock new abilities and bonuses to outwit your opponents. Cards can also be used in multiple ways; you will need to decide whether to buy them for their effects or deliver them as valuable goods.
The board changes every round, and your strategy will have to keep up. Will you play slowly, buying as many cards as you can? Or will you race to the final space to catch your opponents by surprise?

The digital implementation gets rid of a lot of the fiddliness of the physical game and makes it a lot easier to complete a round faster. This is an excellent digital adaptation of the original. There are a few small bugs you'll notice once you've played long enough. It'd be great to see some achievements and online multiplayer of some sort. Plays best on a tablet but is, amazingly, quite functional on a phone as long as you have get the rules.

Update 4/27/22: Baffled by the inability of people to read before buying then proceed to give 1-star because they found out the game is Solo mode atm. For crying out loud learn how to read instead of just mindlessly press buttons. FEATURES • Learn the game's rules with an interactive tutorial >>• Play solo against the Automa at 5 levels of difficulty<< • Pass and play for 2 to 4 players on the same device • Uncover the story of Maracaibo in Campaign Mode, where your decisions permanently change the board Update 01/10/22: Had to lower to 4* cause of noticeable issues with GUI discovered only after a few more games. I just purchased a tablet and was hoping this would have given me a better view of what is displayed on screen but unfortunately the UI seems to be unoptimized also for larger devices. A few panels, text and some clickable elements are too big or cropped or out of boundaries or not properly aligned. To circumvent this situation there's a "Force Mobile Scaling" option which resizes the UI to a smaller scale but while fixing the overlaying/cropping issue, the UI in this mode becomes quite tiny, making it difficult to read. While the game remains strong, and it's definitely playable, this UI issue, in my opinion, needs to be put as top priority and fixed asap to fully appreciate Maracaibo. Devs are always proactive and listening to feedback though, and they seem to take notes and keep in good consideration all the suggestions that users are sending their way, so I'm confident the upgrade will come. I will update my review as newer builds are released. Original review: Superb adaptation of a very complex and deeply strategic board game! Spiral burst Studio did a terrific job with this as they were able to pack a lot of info into a very neat and organized interface. I am playing on an S8 and even though is a bit small, the text on screen is not eye straining. There are a few things I'd like to see added/improved (among which AI and online MP) but devs are active and listening to community feedbacks, and hopefully they will add them at some point! Recommended!

I'm truly baffled and disappointed by the decision (or non decision) to have no AI. Your choices are one-on-one with the original Automata opponent or Pass & Play. Incomplete on modern digital board game standards. I hope someone else is making Great Western Trail.

Convoluted, boring, & way too difficult to read the text in game. Hoping if would grow on me, but it's the opposite. The tokens for the ships look like blobs not ships.

As much as I like this game I can't give it higher than two stars. While the UI is fine, the game freezes every time a new round starts, and you're left wondering if you have to restart the app, or just be patient. What really drags the app down is that there's no AI to play against. The solo mode is dreadful in the tabletop version and, while faithful, is just as dreadful here. All in all very disappointed with this purchase.

Great board game ported to this digital version. But, it's so buggy. The game crashes whenever I increase the attack power with attack points. Also, whenever the main deck runs out and there's no more cars to draw, the game will crash. Also, this could be a rules' policy, but whenever cards are used to purchase things they are out of that game session. There is also a card that is broken because it does not cost any gold. If these bugs were fixed then I'd give this game a 5/5.
