Material Photo Widget is as simple as it can be: a home screen widget to display your favorite photos. It is a free, no-ads, open source alternative for people who want to customize their home screen.

It's easy and simple to add a new widget with your photos.

HOW TO USE
Open the app and tap "Create a new widget" directly from the home screen. Add your photos, choose the appearance and behaviors and tap "Add to home screen". That's it!
You can also long press on your home screen, open the widget menu and search for "Material Photo Widget", then configure your new widget the same way.
MY WIDGET DOES NOT APPEAR
The app consumes very little power and runs on the background when needed (to switch photos, for example). Because it's rarely being actively used, it can be stopped by Android as the system prioritizes the most used apps when trying to optimize the battery duration.
If you are facing this problem, remove any battery or memory restrictions from the app. You can also search for your device brand on https://dontkillmyapp.com and follow their instructions to improve the behavior of apps that mostly run on the background.
Some phones can prevent apps from starting themselves after restarting the device, making the widget can appear broken. If that's happening, you must grant permission for the app to "auto start" through your settings or security app.
PERMISSIONS
* RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED — Required to restore widgets after a device restart. Some device manufacturers may block this by default. You might need to enable it manually via your device's "auto-start" or similar setting. * SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM — Optional. Grants the app the ability to update widget photos at precise intervals, ensuring they follow your selected schedule exactly.
The app does not require any storage permissions. Photos, directories and shortcut apps are selected using the native pickers and stored within the app to keep data private and secure. There's no tracking or network communication.

By far the best widget app on the play store. Everything just works and not only works it works flawlessly. Massive props to the dev and how he offers it for free I have no idea. The ability to use photos on home screen as app shortcuts or shortcuts to various folders containing apps is genius or even links. This feature alone is gold. Thanks dev you get you 5 stars.

I tried that, doesn't work for some reason. If I try to add directly to a specific page it defaults to the first page and I cant move it to another one. Changing the selected home page it still only generates the widget to the first page. Restarting the phone or cache clear doesn't fix it either. Great app no ads, works offline! There aren't many photo widgets that let you have narrow rectangle shaped photos! I tried that, but it won't leave the boundaries of the first page.

Seems nice, but didn't even work for me, after selecting all the pictures I wanted it loaded indefinitely and bugged my entire phone, I had to restart it. I have a Moto g06.

It was a decent app until recently. The widgets I created have disappeared from the desktop, but they still show up in the app, and they can't be deleted since they no longer exist on the desktop and the only way to remove them is from the desktop.
