only controls "Google Play Music" if your listening to pandora and try to hit pause, it starts playing the last track listened to in "Play Music" its the same with any music played i have used it pauses whatever i was listening to and starts "Play Music" except iheartradio, with iheartradio it will start playing Play Music on top of iheartradio and have 2 songs playing at the same time. i dont know if this is a jellybean compatibility issue or an app issue but as it currently is this is useless for anything but play music
