The Story Behind the NET Bible

The New English Translation began with a simple question: what does the original text actually say? In the late 1990s, a team of biblical scholars built a translation that would not hide the work behind the final English sentence. They wanted readers to see the Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts, the translator decisions, and the reasoning behind every verse. The result was the NET Bible, a modern English translation created in the digital age and shaped by a commitment to transparency.

The NET was also one of the first major English translations to be published entirely online, free for anyone to read, study, and share. Its more than 60,000 translator notes do not simply explain difficult words. They open up the original languages, show alternative renderings, and explain why one phrase was chosen instead of another. For pastors, students, teachers, and curious readers, those notes turn this text into a study Bible in the truest sense.

This free NET Bible app brings that same story into a simple offline experience. It lets you read the complete NET Bible without internet, search across the Holy Bible, save highlights and bookmarks, write personal notes, and build a daily habit of reading and study. Whether you are new to Scripture or have studied it for years, the NET Bible study experience helps you see not only what the text says, but also why it says it that way.
