oChat: Chats & Groups

oChat is a messenger you can walk into. Sign in with Google in one tap — no phone number, no SMS code, no password to make up — and you are writing. That Google account works on Android and on iPhone alike. Your first conversation is with the founder: he tells you what the app is for, and you answer.

Your one-to-one chats and private groups are end-to-end encrypted on your own device. Keys are set up on that first sign-in, so there is nothing to switch on.

AND YOU CAN CHECK IT
In a one-to-one chat, compare a fingerprint face to face — eight pictures, a 60-digit number, or the QR code you show each other — and the chat is marked verified. If that key changes later, a warning appears above the message field.
Chats with our support team are not encrypted. The app says so on that screen.

CALLS
Voice and video calls, one to one, end-to-end encrypted like the chats. Both of you see the same four emoji, derived from the keys of that call: read them aloud, and if they match, no one is in between. Swipe the call down and it keeps going as a bar at the top of the screen. Every call — answered, declined or missed — stays in the conversation.

INSIDE
• Chats and groups, with invite links you can revoke one by one. New members can get recent history from the person who added them.
• Replies, edits, reactions, pinned messages, folders for the chat list, an archive and notes to yourself.
• Photos, video, files, voice messages and video notes, encrypted on your device before they are uploaded; pick several at once and they go as one batch.
• A voice message that keeps playing when you leave the chat: a player above the chat list runs through the conversation's voice messages one after another, with a speed control and seeking, and a tap on it returns to the message.
• Emoji search in 47 languages: type the word in your own language, in the reaction picker and in the status picker.
• A chat list that opens with no connection; an unsent message waits in the outbox and goes on its own.
• Your chat history lives on your device. Our server holds a message only until your devices receive it, 30 days at most, and there are no cloud backups. To move to a new phone, enter a 6-digit code on your old one and your history comes straight across.
• Notifications with no message text in them: your messages are encrypted, and our server cannot read them.
• Privacy settings that work both ways, a Devices screen that closes any other session, plus reports, blocks and moderation labels.
• Support inside the app: a bot answers first, and a person takes over when it cannot.
• 47 languages, a dark theme, links that open inside the app.

PLANS
Messaging, groups, encryption, opening any media sent to you and answering a call are free.
Premium is a monthly subscription. It adds sending media — photos, video, files, voice messages and video notes — placing calls, and folders for the chat list. What else it includes is shown on the subscription screen in the app.
A subscription renews automatically unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel it in your Google Play account settings.
