Just finished a two-week trip on the Cheshire Ring using this app. It's honestly every bit as useful, if not more so, than the canal guides! Great for determining your position if you forgot to note the last bridge number, or for making sure you don't blow right past the water point you're looking for. More convenient than the books if you're buttoned up for rain. Only thing I can think of that would improve the app would be tools to measure distance (and better yet ETA) along canal routes.

This is the best canal (and footpath) mapping app out there. We use it for cruising the network and when walking footpaths. We've used it most days since 2020. I am on Android and my partner is on Apple; I get the adverts and the (very useful) historic layer has stopped working, while on my partners Apple the historic layer works fine, and she gets no ads??!! LATER. Thanks for your reply. I've paid the 4.99 and no Ads but still no historic layer or Satellite layer either. Cheers!!

No route planning? It's just a map at the moment with no options to plan a route. Gives you the option to open Google Maps but that doesn't route via the canals so pretty pointless

Info on water points, on the Thames, was unreliable - often a water point turned out to either not be there at all or was a tap in a lock that was not usable to fill up with. Lack of route planning was disappointing.

Just downloaded this app with the intention planning a canal journey and knowing the length of said journe. However like the other similar apps and websites you can look at a map of the canal, however you select a point and measure telephone distance to that point or location. It offers the Googles own ruler tool with measure distance as the crow flies.
