Phone Test: Hardware Check

Phone Test is a full hardware test and phone checkup for any Android device: dead pixel test, touch screen test, multi-touch, speaker and earpiece test, microphone test, sensor test, camera, flashlight, buttons, charging, refresh rate and a real storage capacity check. You judge each part yourself — pass, faulty or skip — and the app keeps the tally.

Made for the moment you are about to buy a used phone, or you suspect something in your own phone has quietly stopped working. Most test apps print raw numbers and leave you guessing; this one draws the conclusion.

THE TESTS

Screen
• Dead pixel check — full-screen solid colours; look for dots that stay dark or bright
• Gradient and burn-in — smooth gradients that reveal banding, blotches and ghosting
• Touch grid — swipe until every cell turns green; the grey ones left are dead spots
• Multi-touch — press with several fingers and see how many the phone registers
• Refresh rate — counts frames for 3 seconds and compares the measured Hz against the advertised number
• Ghost touch — watches an untouched screen for 30 seconds and marks every phantom tap

Audio
• Loudspeaker — left/right tones and a 100 Hz–16 kHz sweep for rattle
• Earpiece — the same tone through the call speaker
• Headphones — wired or Bluetooth, one side at a time
• Microphone — a live level bar, and a 5-second recording to play back

Sensors
• Accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer — live numbers as you tilt and turn, plus a line saying whether the reading is right: gravity must measure 9.8 m/s², a resting gyroscope near zero, the Earth's field 20–70 µT
• Proximity and light — cover the sensor then uncover it; the test passes itself once it has seen both
• Barometer and step counter — each with its range and resolution
• Vibration — short buzz, long buzz and a pattern, and whether strength is adjustable

Camera and buttons
• Rear and front camera preview — focus, colour cast, dust and scratches
• Flashlight — on and off, cleanly
• Buttons — volume, power and headset keys

Connectivity, power and storage
• Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, GPS, SIM card
• Fingerprint — reads a real finger through the system prompt, instead of trusting a spec sheet
• Charging — is the charger detected, and how much current is coming in
• Storage — free space, plus a capacity check that writes real data and reads it back, catching a phone that claims 256 GB on a 32 GB chip

THE REPORT

Every verdict is saved on the phone. The summary shows how many tests passed, failed, were skipped and are still untested, and the share button sends the report as text or image.

PRIVACY

Results never leave the phone. The mic test clip stays in memory — never saved to a file or sent; the camera preview is not recorded either. Camera and microphone are asked for only when you open the test that needs them, and if you say no you can still mark that test by hand. The fingerprint test opens the system's own prompt — the app never sees fingerprint data. It does not read your IMEI or serial number, does not ask for location, and has no account. Anonymous usage and crash reports can be switched off in Settings.
