Plex Media Server

★★★★★ This is amazing! I have compiled my entire family's film and TV show library, as well as home movies and pictures. They can stream any file easily. I am using an Nvidia Shield TV Pro as my server and I can have 5 users at once streaming with almost no problems, and more if they are using a direct connection. The updates come fairly often, which is nice. There are always some issues, but they are usually fixed within a few days with the latest updates. You can't argue with the price... I am now a Plex pass subscriber and will be using the DVR function to record OTA media. Plex is amazing! All the 1 and 2-star reviews need to update their reviews, because most if not all cited issues that have been fixed. I'm assuming these people are either completely computer illiterate, or work for some competing company, or just have some sort of loyalty to another media server option. Setting up Plex takes some know how, but if it is fairly doable for any normal person like me, then you can do it too.

★★★★★ I use this on my Nvidia Shield TV 16 GB model. I formatted a 2 TB USB drive as "internal storage" so I could also access the files via a network share and have write access. It's a fantastic, fast, versatile server and media player. A+!

★★☆☆☆ Absolutely awesome that I can use the Shield as a Plex media server but can't get more than two stars due to inability to use adoptable storage as metadata file. The metadata folder is permanently linked to the internal storage which is limited to 16gb on the standard Shield. The server has now used up all 16gb of my internal storage and I can no longer even update my apps or download new apps.

★★☆☆☆ Super buggy: Cannot play offline files without an online connection because the "offline" screen on startup cannot be bypassed. Additionally, it crashes my Nvidia Shield quite often, playback suddenly does not work; sound plays, but no image. Pausing does not work suddenly, buffers a lot. This is bad. Use KODI instead. The latest issue is with the new Plex Agent - it does not show subtitles stored in the same folder. There exist multiple huge threads in the Plex community forum about this issue.

★★☆☆☆ Using Nvidia Shield 2017. Since this PMS update and the last PMS (Plex Media Server) update, I am experiencing constant buffering... especially with 4K content. My media library is almost unplayable now. Plex Dev please look into this issue.
