Description
Populus Romanus — "the Roman people", the populus of SPQR itself — is a turn based strategy game set in the rise of ancient Rome, inspired by classic hex and counter wargames.
Not sure if it's for you? Try the free edition first — Populus Romanus: Ancient Rome includes a complete scenario, the Conquest of Veii, so you can experience the gameplay before purchasing.
Do you enjoy deep, tactical strategy games and historical campaigns? Populus Romanus is a turn based strategy game where you command the Roman Republic in its expansion across Italy and beyond.
Lead your legions through a series of hex based scenarios inspired by real historical conflicts — from early wars against neighbouring tribes to large-scale battles against powerful rivals such as Carthage.
Fight the great battles of the ancient empires as consul of Rome — from the walls of Veii to the armies of Carthage, with every centurion and legion under your command.
Classic hex strategy gameplay:
Populus Romanus is built around traditional turn based, hex and counter gameplay familiar from classic wargames and strategy board games: - Command Roman legions and auxiliary units - Use terrain, positioning, and timing to outmanoeuvre enemy forces - Experience tactical combat where planning matters more than luck
This is a pure strategy experience focused on thoughtful decision-making, not fast reflexes.
Raised on the great turn based strategy classics — the ones that kept you up promising yourself one more turn? This is a real game in that tradition: the Roman civilization against the powers of the ancient world, every decision yours, nothing standing between you and the next turn.
Historical campaigns of ancient Rome:
Play through multiple scenarios covering key moments in Roman history: - Expansion across central and southern Italy - Wars against the Samnites and other regional powers - Large-scale conflicts including the Punic Wars against Carthage
Each scenario offers a different tactical challenge, making this a highly replayable strategy game.
Designed for strategy and wargame fans: - Historically inspired units, maps, and battles - Emphasis on tactics, positioning, and battlefield control - Play solo against the AI, or pass and play in local hot-seat multiplayer — tabletop wargaming on one device - Built-in scenario editor: design your own battles - AI vs AI simulation tools for balancing and testing - Pay once, play forever: no ads, no in-app purchases, fully playable offline
Create your own battles or explore how different strategies play out.
Still to come: the remastered campaign following Hannibal himself, now in development.
Populus Romanus is a turn based strategy wargame that brings the classic hex gameplay experience to ancient Rome — combining history, tactics, and thoughtful gameplay.
Recent changes: - Full split-screen and multi-window support, including foldable devices - Scenario editor: create scenarios playable from either side, each side with its own briefing and victory conditions - Scenario editor: delete your saved custom scenarios - Android 16 support - Many smaller refinements throughout the game

Very good game I have had a log of fun playing this game. I like that I have to use both strategy and tactics to win each scenario. There are a couple of things that would make this a perfect war game: 1. Ability to pick units at the start of the 'scenario' 2. When you win a scenario you bring forward any surviving units to the next scenario 3. Chance to play both sides of the combat

This is a great turn based strategy game, that has historically accurate descriptions of each battle. It has Advanced War elements: Units vary with regard to attack, defense, and movement. Units level up becoming more powerful with experience. Terrain effects defense and movement. Cities can produce new units and heal old ones. The maps are well crafted to provide fun but challenging levels.

Bad logic. Spearman in river attacks my Praetorian in town and wins all the time.

Half decent game Free demo was good however after purchasing the full game it got quite difficult. 4 attacks on the same person would fail even though chance of win would be 60-70% A lot of tactical planning is required

Boring and repetitive. I'd like a refund. You need to add some city building features to give it some depth
