• Real unit costs. Cost flows down the chain: ore into ingots, ingots into gears, each step carrying the last.
• Distance is money. Every belt tile adds to an item's cost, so a sprawling layout quietly eats your margin.
• Deposits hold a spread of grades, and quality collapses to your worst input.
• Upkeep never stops. Every building and every belt bills you per second, running or idle.
• Stock that sits still costs money. Goods in a warehouse are capital tied up, billed by the second.

🚚 BUY WHAT YOU CANNOT MINE
• A receiving dock buys any material in the catalogue, at the grade you ask for
• Three firms for everything — cheap and slow, or dear and quick. You find out who delivers by buying.
• Set a reorder point and it restocks itself, or run it lean and risk the line going dry
• Prices move. Buy a market when it is soft and sell into strength — holding costs you either way.

🔧 MACHINES WEAR OUT
• Condition falls as a machine runs, and output starts slipping a grade below what went in
• Some stop without warning. A spare on the shelf fits itself; without one, it waits for you.
• Fit sensors on the machines worth watching and be told before one goes
• Rework what a machine spoils instead of binning it: fewer units an hour, less waste

• Split a line by grade or by product with inspection gates and sorting stations
• Survey a deposit before you commit the belts, or mine it and find out
• Machines get faster at a job the longer they run it. Changing it costs you the ramp.
• When the factory stops, it tells you which building stopped it and why
