Description

Psaltica Praxis is a Byzantine chant composition and notation app for Android phones and tablets, built for chanters, students, teachers, and composers of liturgical music.

Learn a difficult hymn by ear, then by eye. Each neume lights up as it sounds, so you can see exactly which note is playing, where you are in the chant, and why the melody moves the way it does. A printed book cannot show you that, and a recording cannot either. Loop any phrase until it is memorized, slow the tempo, and inspect any neume for its mode, pitch, and interval.

Write chant the way it is actually sung. Enter neumes on a specialized Byzantine keyboard with gorgons, martyria, fthoras, ison, expressive signs, accidentals, and time symbols, then hear the hymn play back in the correct mode.

Edit directly in the score with cursor-based insertion, replacement, selection, copy, and paste. Add multilingual lyrics in Greek, Arabic, English, and more, compose in LTR or RTL layouts, and organize your hymns in the composition library.

Advanced chant notation tools include:

- Cluster-aware Byzantine symbol entry and editing
- Customizable keyboard palettes and a More Notes keyboard
- Petasti variants and expressive signs including Varia, Omalon, Antikenoma, Psifiston, and Eteron
- Time signatures, automatic measure barlines, and per-measure beat overrides
- Interactive fthora mode selection with Greek mode names
- Accidentals and fthoras targeted to individual notes within composite neumes
- Fthoras attached directly to key signatures
- Out-of-mode key detection with one-tap replacement
- Note Inspector with mode, pitch, channel, applied rules, and moria distance
- Customizable notation alignment and symbol positioning
- Per-composition playback transpose and expression controls
- Expression signs that take their reading from the surrounding chant, with note-by-note overrides
- A variant picker showing both sides of each sign's equation, in the mode and direction of your own chant
- Mid-score tempo signs, set by preset or exact BPM
- High and low octave overrides for the ison drone

The free tier allows up to 3 saved compositions. Free playback previews are available for up to 3 distinct compositions per rolling 24-hour period, with 60 seconds of playback for each composition. Export and share your compositions for free, and import shared compositions up to your saved-composition limit.

Subscribe to unlock unlimited composition storage, unlimited playback, printing, PDF and MIDI export, backup tools, and the complete Psaltica Praxis workflow.

Psaltica Praxis offers auto-renewable Monthly and Yearly subscriptions for premium access. Payment is charged to your Google Play account. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current subscription period. You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Google Play subscriptions settings.

Expression signs now play by the theory, reading the surrounding music, with note-by-note overrides and a picker showing each variant's equation.
