Description by Reimar Döffinger(from Google Play)
Uses data from Wiktionary to generate dictionary files that can be used offline. These can be downloaded from within the app. Both translation and single-language dictionaries available. Use the long-press menu of a word to have your device's text-to-speech implementation speak it for you (you may need to install text-to-speech data for the language first).
If you experience app crashes I can generally see, investigate and often fix them. But if they do not get fixed I likely do not have enough information to do that, and reporting them (and other issues) on github (https://github.com/rdoeffinger/Dictionary/issues) would likely be helpful. Note: I am not the original author, but I took over maintenance of the original QuickDic app.
Source code is available here: https://github.com/rdoeffinger/Dictionary but little documentation (in the readme.txt) so far.
The adventurous can choose to get the beta version here if you want to follow development more closely: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/de.reimardoeffinger.quickdic
Recent changes: Bugfix release: - fix contrast - fix unsetting default dictionary - fixes to text-to-speech - preserver order of dictionaries In previous version: - Fixes to app layout (again, hopefully for real this time) - Possible fix for TTS not working on some devices - Wifi only downloads by default - Fix picking best dictionary when sharing/looking up words from other apps

Very good dictionary app. I especially like the fact that I'm allowed to store the often large dictionary data files on my external storage card. Only one issue for me: There is the option for a dark theme UI, which I prefer. This works well when using translation dictionaries. However, when using the single language dictionaries, in my case English (I tried with French and saw the same result), the content displayed when you look up the definition of a word is displayed as black text on white background. This is very blinding when used in dark lighting because of the sudden switch from dark theme to a blinding bright white light in your face. I would love a consistent theme throughout.

Absolutely wonderful... A small thing though... I'm getting these words and phrases inside curly braces. It sort of interferes the reading process. Is there a fix for that? Eg: Here's the etymology section for the word "aroma": From {{der|en’LL.|arōmata|t=spices}}, from {{der|en|grc|ἄρωμα|t=seasoning, spicy and/or fragrant smell}}

Edit: Disregard previous review. Had to completely deactivate my firewall for downloads to work. App is flawless. Been using for years and will continue to do so. Best dictionary app. Everyone should be using Quickie over any alternatives.

I used to have this for Pennsylvania German, but now all I get is some cross between German and ???? Not PA German. Where's the old version with this?

I'm surprised of high rating for this app. Search and displaying function are sucks. You are much better to find dictionary data In star dict firmat and use Color Dict.

"Unnecessarily Complicated".... trying to figure out this APP is like filing a police complaint in Czechoslovakia, it's pointless!
