Tip: Use your phone’s hotspot and set it to broadcast a 2.4 GHz-only signal with the same Wi-Fi name and password as your home network. Then: 1. Turn off your home Wi-Fi. 2. Use another device (tablet, old phone, etc.) to connect to the 2.4 GHz hotspot. 3. On the device connected to the hotspot, open the RCA Water Shut-Off app and navigate to Gear > Devices > Wi-Fi Settings. 4. Enter your Wi-Fi password and click Search to connect.

It's *just* ok. The app seems to work and the device does work as intended either by test or actual water test. The problem I have is in the dev. 1. At this stage of technology and the amt of equipment used to control, you would expect the ability to turn off manually. 2. The app continually runs and the notifications are incessant. At least 10x a day it informs me of the last successful test. I don't need to know this 10x a day and don't want the app constantly running in notification area.

I purchased RCA's SMART Hot Water Heater Shut Off System. While installing the app notification recommended to leave the app running in the background, and it can be changed later. But I don't think the app has an option to stop it from running in the background. In addition to that the unit is not designed to shut off manually using the app! It may be a great unit, but unfortunately I didn't like the functionality or the app.

I bought this dirt cheap at 30 dollars at rona closing sale, so I am happy, but I am giving it 2 stars for the very limited Wi-Fi, it will only report if the sensor went off, there is no way to activate it remotely, so there is no way to add more water sensors without modifying it how it was not designed. Since there is no way to hook up more sensors I can not recommend this unless you ended up getting it for under 100 dollars and are ok with only having protection around your hot water heater.
