I purchased filter replacements from Lowes, an authorized Samsung retailer. The filters used to come with a magnet to verify that it was a genuine part, but now they have a QR code and this app. The app will not scan the QR code to verify if the part is genuine. The app UX is poorly designed. I'm disappointed in Samsung. Also, the app is incredibly intrusive by demanding location to operate; why does it need the buyer's location to verify authenticity of a manufacturing part?

Edit: if you are seeing this page, you purchased a counterfeit Samsung water filter. Samsung support called it "sketchy" and told me to return the filter. No "report counterfeit" option even though it tells you there is one. Completely non-functional app vibe-coded by a third party. If it is legit, Samsung should really know better and whoever's idea this is should be sacked. But I think it is fake.
