Estarreja is a territory in the Center Region (sub-region of Baixo Vouga) of different dimensions and therefore with different ways of experiencing.
And here a question arises - What is the identity that each citizen attributes to Estarreja? And those who visit?
There are different ways of identifying Estarreja. A land of carnival and life, privileged by nature and abundant rice fields on the banks of the Ria that meanders through the municipality. A municipality, which due to its geography is the stage for well-being and physical activity. And for a healthy body in a healthy mind. Land of knowledge and innovation. Has Egas Moniz as the symbol of science. Estarreja is also synonymous with Culture, due to the movie theatre programme, which places the City on national cultural routes. Estarreja is a municipality in constant development, without forgetting its history. With a huge heritage, has in Art Nouveau, elements that shape the city's architecture. It is a vernacular side that lives on the estuary and on the boats that sail on it.
In reality, Estarreja is a municipality based on several identities that are part of nature and history, which is intended with this digital application to encompass in one.
The application “SENTIR ESTARREJA” will use the user's location to suggest two thematic itineraries in the first phase and make known hundreds of points of interest (e.g. heritage, environment and landscape, art in public space, equipment and services) services in the city and the municipality, information and the possibility to evaluate each point of interest, share it on social networks and comment.
The user can, through the application “SENTIR ESTARREJA”, explore the territory in a simple, interactive and intuitive way, with access to text content in different languages, video and image in a first phase and augmented reality format and audio guide, in the next one’s development phases.
The application aims to "stimulate interaction" with the territory and is an answer so that the tourist can continue to discover new places. The suggested routes allow the user to physically travel to the different points of interest, which are part of each itinerary, and the app user can assign scores, share on social networks, comment and use interactive features with the surrounding heritage while looking for the restaurant or accommodation nearby.
The itineraries are in themselves a visiting card for Estarreja, as in a first phase, through the itinerary linked to the environment or the Route linked to Art, the visitor will interact with the identities that best value and enhance the territory of Estarreja, which identify themselves as follows:
BioRia is a pioneering project for the conservation of nature and biodiversity in the municipality of Estarreja, where the environmentally degraded areas were upgraded, which allowed the creation of a Network of Walking and Cycling Routes in direct contact with nature.
ESTAU is motivated by the passion that Egas Moniz had for art. At the door of the house he lived in Estarreja, we can still read today: “the great schools of fine arts are museums. I wanted one in each city, in each town and each village so that the people would rise in the spiritual communion of the Beautiful”. ESTAU is an annual festival that put Urban Art talking to the city, people, heritage and nature, through murals, installations, workshops, films, lectures, guided tours, music and much more, everything with the participation of countless national and international artists.
The SENTIR ESTARREJA application is the “smartcity” in the palm of your hand and appears as a response to the need to create experiences when interacting with the territory, getting to know it in its different dimensions and being able to share it with the world.
