Description

El Ministerio de Agricultura, Ganadería y Alimentación (MAGA), de Guatemala, delegó al OIRSA la administración de los Servicios de Cuarentena Vegetal y Animal, en septiembre de 1998, mediante el convenio 263-98.

El propósito fue que el Servicio de Protección Agropecuaria (SEPA), se fortaleciera con personal profesional capacitado, aumentando la eficiencia en atención a los usuarios y resguardando la sanidad agropecuaria guatemalteca.

Por su parte, la Secretaría de Agricultura y Ganadería (SAG), de Honduras, delegó también al OIRSA, en el año 2000, la administración de los Servicios de Cuarentena Vegetal y Animal, mediante el acuerdo No 84-2000.

En estos dos países, el SEPA es el encargado de realizar la sección operativa y técnica de los procedimientos de la Cuarentena Agropecuaria del MAGA y la SAG, respectivamente.

El SEPA se encuentra en todos los puestos fronterizos de Guatemala y Honduras que brindan los servicios a las importaciones y exportaciones de las diversas mercaderías, haciendo valer las Medidas Sanitarias y Fitosanitarias.

Los inspectores del SEPA se capacitan continuamente para fortalecer las aptitudes de respuesta a las exigencias que el comercio regional e internacional demanda.
