Description
shapeViewer is a scientific application to visualize asteroid shape models obtained from lightcurve inversion and other techniques.
One example shape is provided with the app. Others models can be either created by yourself (see format definition below) or downloaded from the DAMIT database (http://astro.troja.mff.cuni.cz/projects/asteroids3D/web.php), and stored in your device in the folder of your choice.
Usage: Option menu to load shape, read help, and select if you want to rotate the shape or the light. Touch screen to interact with shape/light, pinch to zoom.
.SHP/.SHAPE format definition: Each model is represented as a polyhedron with triangular surface facets and stored in an ascii file. The first line gives the number of vertices and facets, then follow the list of vertex coordinates (x y z, 1 vertex per line), then for each facet the order numbers of facet vertices (starting at 1 for the first vertex).
Recent changes: version 1.2.3: - updated default model to the latest public release of comet 67P's shape (Rosetta mission), available in the ESA archive (http://imagearchives.esac.esa.int/index.php?/page/navcam_3d_models).

★★★★★
shapeViewer includes a model for the Rosetta-Philae ESA mission's destination comet. I tapped the in-app link and selected a shape model, saved it as texts with the .SHP and .SHAPE extensions; but, upon selecting the file from shapeViewer, a message appeared saying only the app had unfortunately closed. I tried again, using the web browser's 'Save Link' button, then renamed the downloaded file with a .shp suffix, and that worked.
