★★★★★ I'm not sure why this app has such bad reviews. Personally, I'm from the US, and I was able to download the app, create an account and purchase all my shinkansen tickets by using a Mastercard (I purchased the tickets before I left for my trip to Japan). When I arrived in Japan, I bought a Welcome Spica card and I was able to attach my card to the Shinkansen tickets I already bought via the app. It was super convenient! Test it out before you go!

★★★★★ I used this app to book a ticket for Shinkansen with a Wise card. At payment, they advised an MFA was needed but recognized the Wise card and offered to send authentication request to the Wise app. In my noob opinion that was quite nice as I don't have intl roaming and hence use a local Japanese sim card making sms and call impossible.

★★☆☆☆ Save your sanity, don't use this. I tried to buy tickets from Tokyo to Osaka. My 2 credit cards were rejected while my debit card was accepted. I tried to log in only to be hit with an error message of "You can't use Membership ID you have entered. Your ID might be temporarily suspended. If you have any question, please call us at the follow number." The number isn't a toll-free. So, I had to buy Skype credit to call the office in Japan. I was told the account was deleted, and I was given a refund.

★★☆☆☆ No credit or debit cards ever work to pay for tickets on the app or the website. Their "validation" site always fails no matter what credit/debit card is used. No wonder Look will charge you an extra 50k yen just to do the same thing... When the official channel doesn't work, the intermediaries have a field day!
