Key Companion App For Wifi Phone Sidecar makes a nice companion to HeyWire,TextMe, TextNow, TextPlus, Pinger, or VoxOx. It gives you the free outgoing calls on wifi. Your old phone that no longer has service can be made into a wifi phone with some help from Sidecar. So you've got your phone number identity from your chosen texting service. Set Sidecar to match that number. Now you have free outgoing calling to match up with your free texting. I've made several calls, over wifi, using an Evo 4G and Droid 1 that no longer have cellular service. Call quality was not an issue during any of the calls. Both of the testing phones were running cyanogenmod 7.2.

Love it! It's better than those other voice/text apps. You don't have to download games or sign up for anything. One of the best thing is yoy don't waist any min. Great job! Love it....just can't change the number. I give it a 5 a still.

serious problems The ability to send pictures and location directly from within a call is nice. But the implementation is lacking. Sidecar uses phone numbers to identify users but never verifies them. This presents the risk that people impersonate each other. Also, it's unclear how multiple devices/phones with the same number are handled. Sidecar goes through some VoIP on the backend when on WiFi, but I don't want to use another VoIP service. The rotary interface is gimmicky; this is the kind of app you give to your mother, but the rotary interface is likely confusing. And the app is slow to start, slow to connect, and connections are not reliable. Overall, a calling app like this would be a nice thing to have. But Sidecar looks like a dialing app with aspirations of turning into a VoIP service or social network or something and that is a stretch. I'm hoping someone will create an app like Sidecar without the complexity or tie-ins, and with a better UI and, most importantly, better security.
