Silver Hallmark Identifier

A silver hallmark identifier built on more than 17,000 silver hallmarks for antique and modern silver: over 6,000 British and 5,000 American, plus France, Germany, Mexico and Scandinavia. Every mark was checked against trade catalogues and assay-office records, so a match points at a real reference instead of a guess. Photograph a punch and identify the hallmark in seconds.

In the hands of dealers, jewellers and estate buyers since 2012.

What you get

• Use it as a hallmark scanner. Photograph a punch on a spoon, a teapot or a piece of jewelry and match it against the reference library on your device. You get a shortlist ranked by similarity, then confirm against the full record. When the library is unsure, an AI second opinion reads the mark and explains its reasoning on a separate card, so you always know which answer came from the references.
• Browse 17,000+ silver marks four ways: by letter, by object, by animal, or by shape. Whichever lane matches the punch in front of you. Already know where a piece came from? Start from its country and century instead.
• American silver covered properly. Gorham, Towle, Wallace, Reed & Barton, Tiffany, coin silver, and 249 Navajo and Native American smiths that most references leave out.
• British date letters for ten assay offices: London, Birmingham, Sheffield, Edinburgh, Chester, Glasgow, Dublin, Exeter, Newcastle and York. Pin the year a piece left the assay office, see which makers were working there that year, and check which marks belong beside the letter.
• Maker's marks show town, working years and metal standard at a glance. Useful when you are telling a Hester Bateman from a 1920s revival.
• Sterling silver or plate, settled fast. EPNS, EPBM, Britannia, 800 and 900 laid out side by side. The question every estate sale turns on.
• Spot a fake mark. Solder seams around a let-in panel, wear that does not match the piece, punches too even to have been struck, plus the magnet, cloth and ice tests.
• Silver value as a floor. A melt value calculator works from weight, fineness and the live spot price and shows the range a scrap buyer actually pays, with a specific-gravity test for purity.
• Plain-English glossary of 123 trade terms. Assay, duty mark, lion passant, sterling, Britannia, town mark, date letter.
• Save what you own. Photograph a piece, tag it, log its weight, what you paid and what it sold for, and keep it backed up with your Google account.

The silver hallmark identifier works offline. The library of silver hallmarks lives on your device, so a cellar with no signal is as good as a desk. Only the AI second opinion and the spot price need a connection.

Buy a piece with confidence, or pass on it knowing why.
