Or you might give in to your inner demons and wind up chatting with ghosts and skeletons as though they're your friends. Well-written story. The writer obviously did his homework. There are
several different paths you can choose, some happier than others. Great
job. We need a sequel.

Initially I thought the game was too short, but there are so many paths and choices that I found myself playing through for weeks on end. The story It's trying to paint is beautiful, somber, and anxiety filled all at once. The choices available to me on certain walkthroughs were horrifying in context, and I don't think there's been a text based game that I've enjoyed more so than this one.

At first promising, Somme Trench disappoints when it becomes obvious that the path its story takes is guided less by the player's choices and more by randomized branching paths. This may provide a more realistic perspective to the Battle of the Somme, but it's frustrating to those who enjoy games based heavily on player agency.
