Description by Kont Technology Written by the developer, not by AppBrain. Click to read.
Sound Meter turns your phone into a simple noise level meter. It reads your microphone and shows the sound level in decibels, with a clear dial, live statistics and a 30-second history graph.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
• Check how noisy a room, street or workplace is
• See minimum, average and maximum levels while you measure
• Watch the last 30 seconds as a graph
• Get a warning when the level passes 85 dB
• Freeze the reading when you cannot look at the screen
• Adjust the calibration if you have a reference reading
FEATURES
• Large, easy-to-read decibel dial
• Colour coded levels: quiet, moderate, loud, very loud
• Min / average / max statistics
• 30 second history graph with an 85 dB marker
• Hold and reset
• Reference table of everyday sound levels
• Dark and light theme, following your system setting
• Small download size
ABOUT ACCURACY
Readings are an estimate. Phone microphones are not calibrated instruments, they apply their own audio processing and most of them saturate above roughly 100 dB. Use this app for everyday awareness - not for professional, occupational or legal noise measurement.
MICROPHONE AND PRIVACY
The app needs microphone access because measuring sound is its only function. No audio is recorded, saved or sent anywhere. Each block of sound is turned into a single number and immediately discarded. The microphone is used only while the app is on screen; there is no background listening.
The app is free and supported by a single banner ad at the bottom of the screen. The ad never covers the meter or the buttons. Showing ads requires an internet connection; measuring does not.
You may notice that the Data safety section on this page lists approximate location, app activity and device identifiers. Those are collected by the ad network that keeps this app free - not by the app itself. The app has no server, no account and stores nothing about you.
Recent changes:
The "above 85 dB" hearing warning now has its own line under the dial, so it is never hidden. The minimum reading no longer starts at 0 when the meter opens.
