What is Stache? Stache is a modern take on the popular card game you may know as Thirty-One, Blitz, Schnauz, Schwimmen, Knack, Hosn obe, or 31.
Game Basics and Flow At the beginning of each round, all players are dealt three cards. Your goal is to have the highest possible score by exchanging your cards with those in the center.
During your turn, you have several options:
Swap: You can either exchange one card or all three cards with those in the center. Skip: Once per round, you can skip your turn, hoping for better cards in the next one. Knock: If you think your hand can't be improved further, you can "knock" to end the round. The other players then have one last chance to improve their hands.
Swimming Every player starts with three lives. At the end of each round, the player(s) with the lowest score lose a life. If a player loses all lives, they start "swimming". If they survive the next round, they regain a life. If not, they "sink" and are eliminated from the game.
How are the cards scored? In Stache, scoring is simple: try to collect three cards of the same suit or three cards of the same rank (e.g., three aces). Three cards of the same rank always total 30.5 points. Otherwise, an ace is worth 11 points, face cards are worth 10 points each, and all other cards are worth their face value.
A "Stache" (also known as "Schnauz") is the best card combination, earning 31 points. When a player has a Stache, the round ends immediately, and all other players lose a life. A "Stache" can unexpectedly end the game, keeping the tension high until the very end.
Strategic Gameplay Stache is more than just luck. By cleverly swapping cards, you can improve your hand and outsmart your opponents. Will you choose to exchange cards or wait for a better opportunity? Use your skip wisely when the swap options aren't great, and pick the perfect moment to knock and end the round.
