Baghdede — the heart of the Nineveh Plain and the largest Christian community in Iraq — has preserved its Syriac tradition through the ages. This tradition, whose roots may extend to ancient Tikrit.
The liturgy of "Tahra" (Wonder/Awe) represents the angels' annunciation to the shepherds on Christmas.
According to the Baghdede tradition, the liturgy is distinguished by its unique melodies and structure, differing from all other Syriac traditions.
