Description by AlexStulnikov Written by the developer, not by AppBrain. Click to read.
The chart
• Drag sideways through time, pinch to show anything from 12 hours to 7 days.
• A line marks now with the current level; tap anywhere for the expected time and level at that instant.
• Highs and lows are labelled on the curve, daylight is shaded between sunrise and sunset.
• Every time is the station's local time, so the chart reads like the official tables wherever you are.
Now
• The current level, whether the tide is rising or falling, and the next high and low.
• Sunrise, sunset and the moon phase for the day you are looking at.
Stations
• About 5,000 stations worldwide: every NOAA tide-prediction station in the United States plus the tide gauges of the IOC Sea Level Station Monitoring Facility elsewhere.
• Opens on the station nearest to you (with your permission) or the one you chose last time.
• Search by town, state, country or id, nearest first once your position is known, or tap a station on the map.
Where the predictions come from
• United States: NOAA CO-OPS, the official predictions, in metres or feet above MLLW, the chart datum.
• Everywhere else: the Open-Meteo global tide model at the gauge's position, hourly, from 1940 to about two weeks ahead, above mean sea level. A model is not a harmonic prediction for that exact gauge, so treat its times and heights as approximate. The app says which source each station uses.
Settings
• Metres or feet, 12- or 24-hour clock; each follows your device until you change it.
Privacy
• No accounts, no ads, no analytics. Your position is used on the phone to pick the nearest station and is never sent anywhere. The app contacts NOAA, Open-Meteo and OpenStreetMap only to fetch predictions and map tiles.
Permissions
• Location: to pick the nearest station. The app works without it.
• Internet: predictions and map tiles.
Not for navigation. Always check official tide tables and local notices before going on the water.
