TO BE A KING

Claim the land. Raise your banners. Take the crown.

TO BE A KING is a real-time medieval strategy game. Start with a humble cottage on a hex map full of rival lords, grow it into a grand castle, raise armies and fleets, and fight your way to the throne. Only one kingdom can be left standing.

Build your kingdom
Put your villagers to work on farms, lumber camps and quarries, fill your storehouses and trade at the market. Upgrade your seat of power through 100 castle levels, from a thatched cottage to a manor, a keep, a castle and finally a grand fortress, and push your borders across forests, rivers and mountains.

Command your armies
Train spearmen, archers, cavalry and catapults at the barracks. Each has strengths and weaknesses, so the right mix wins battles. Select several squads and send them marching together, defend your borders with watchtowers, and lay siege to enemy castles.

Heroes
Named commanders ride with your armies as mounted knights under your banner. Warlords, Guardians, Rangers, Siegemasters and Admirals each give their army a bonus, gain experience from battles and conquests, and learn new skills up to level 30. If their army falls they are wounded, never lost, and return to the fight after a rest at your castle.

Rule the seas
Build a shipyard and take the war to the water. Carry your troops across the sea in transports, hunt enemy fleets with galleys and warships, and pound coastal defences with bombard ships.

Diplomacy and war
Every lord has ambitions. Offer alliances, accept peace, trade with your allies, or declare war when the moment is right. Rivals make and break pacts among themselves too, so watch the realm and strike when they are weak.

Monsters and bandits
The wilds are not empty. Bandit camps and forts, goblin camps, ogre caves and fire-breathing dragons threaten your farms and villages. Clear them out for loot and glory before they burn your fields.

The Black Crown
At the heart of the realm stands The Black Crown: a black keep ringed with towers and a veteran host of every kind. It raids the strongest lords and never makes peace. No lord is crowned while it stands. Gather allies and catapults, break its walls, and claim its treasury.
