Description by Orilay Studio Written by the developer, not by AppBrain. Click to read.
VerseFirst is a Christian screen time app and Bible app blocker. Before Instagram, TikTok or YouTube opens, you see a Bible verse and a short prayer. Read it, then choose: close the app, or continue.
Stop doomscrolling with Scripture and build a daily Bible reading habit. No ads, no account needed.
HOW IT WORKS
1. Pick the apps that pull you in: Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, Facebook, Snapchat, Reddit, or any app on your phone.
2. Choose a mode. Verse before scroll shows a verse every time you open one of them. Earn your screen time keeps them locked until you finish today's short reading. Both combines the two.
3. Read for a few seconds, then close the app or continue. Each time you close it, VerseFirst counts one scroll resisted.
WHAT YOU GET
- Verse before scroll: a full-screen Scripture lock with a verse and a prayer, every time you open a chosen app.
- Earn your screen time: finish a 1, 3, 5 or 10 minute daily reading to unlock your apps for the day.
- Bible verses for every season: 24 themes and over 2,000 verses, each with its own prayer. Verses for anxiety, fear, hope, peace, grief, healing, forgiveness, strength, faith, sleep, gratitude, marriage, family, work, loneliness, temptation and more.
- Read the whole Bible: all 66 books in KJV and BSB, chapter by chapter, in a reader that remembers your place.
- Verse of the day widget for your home screen, in three sizes.
- Bible reading streak with a 90-day calendar.
- Scripture memorization mode, saved verses, and verse cards you can share.
- Progress page with verses read, scrolls resisted and minutes earned, plus a weekly report.
- Gentle reminders you control: morning verse, evening check-in, streak reminder.
- Light, dark or system appearance. Works offline.
WHO IT IS FOR
For Christians who want to put God first on their phone, spend less time on social media and more time in the Word. A simple digital detox built on Scripture, one verse at a time.
ALWAYS IN YOUR CONTROL
You can pause VerseFirst for an hour or until tomorrow from the lock screen overlay, from the notification, or from Home. You can turn it off completely at any time. If you choose Strict mode, your settings stay locked for 24 hours, but Pause and Turn off still work.
NO ADS. PRIVATE BY DESIGN
There are no ads, and you do not need an account. Your chosen apps, settings, readings, streak and counters are stored on your phone. If you want, you can sign in with Google or Facebook to back up your progress and restore it on a new phone. You can delete your account and backup from the app at any time.
HONEST PRICING
Start with a 7-day free trial of the yearly plan. After the trial, VerseFirst Pro is $39.99 per year. You can also choose $4.99 per week or a one-time $79.99 lifetime purchase. Cancel the subscription anytime in Google Play before the trial ends and you will not be charged. We remind you 2 days before it ends. The free version lets you lock 1 app, use 2 themes and 1 widget verse, with unlimited reading and streaks.
WHY WE ASK FOR ACCESSIBILITY ACCESS
VerseFirst uses the Android AccessibilityService API only to detect when you open an app you chose to limit, so it can show the verse pause screen. It does not read what is on your screen, and it does not collect or transmit any data. You see a clear explanation and can say no before anything is enabled. VerseFirst also asks for "Usage access" and "Display over other apps" so it can show the pause screen on top of the app.
SCRIPTURE TEXT
Verses are shown in the King James Version (KJV) and the Berean Standard Bible (BSB), both in the public domain. The prayers are original to VerseFirst.
VerseFirst is a simple tool for building a daily habit of reading Scripture. It is not medical or professional advice.
