Description

Secondo la tradizione l’origine del Santuario di Oropa è da collocarsi nel IV secolo, ad opera di S. Eusebio, primo Vescovo di Vercelli. I più antichi documenti, risalenti al 1200, parlano del sacello ove è venerata la Madonna Nera; attorno ad esso sorse l’attuale Basilica (inizi del 1600) e, progressivamente, tutto l’imponente complesso edilizio fino alla Basilica Superiore, consacrata nel 1960. Prestigiosi architetti come Filippo Juvarra, Guarino Guarini, Filippo Beltrame, Ignazio A. Galletti, Pierpaolo Bonora hanno contribuito a progettare e a realizzare l’insieme degli edifici del Santuario.
