Droid TURBO This does work up to 70% increase (above normal max volume). For audio-only media (music, podcasts) in VLC, it works fine. For videos (in VLC), it requires extra steps to work, but it is possible. I have to set the video to pop-out mode, then open this program and set volume, where I can then open the video full screen with increased volume (it stops working if the video pauses, and you have to redo the pop-out method). Ads aren't too obtrusive (back button closes the rare pop-up when changing boost %).

I like paid for apps, so I've installed the free version to discover if it works or not, and it certainly does. I'll try a few others, but I'll most likely move on to the paid version of this app. The only annoyance for me is that the app only displays itself in portrait mode. I find it difficult to change the volume especially when watching films (I hate the term movies) in landscape mode. Make that feature available, and it would be worth 5 stars.
