Description

Walk1916 is an augmented reality walking tour that allows you to create your own tour path of 10 Easter Rising sites in Dublin City Centre. At each site you will see a historical image from a local Dublin library, archive and/or museum, along with text and audio narrative about the significance of the site. This app gives you the best of both worlds: access to historical artefacts with simultaneously accessing historical sites, in whatever order you choose, providing an exciting way to experiencing Irish history. Funded by the Irish Research Council.

Sites were determined via public online vote during the period September-October 2015. Sites include:
General Post Office
Moore Street
Wynn’s hotel & Abbey Street
Mount Street bridge & Clanwilliam House
Four Courts
Sackville Street (O’Connell Street)
Jacob’s Biscuit Factory
Liberty Hall
Boland’s Mill
Dublin Castle

Great and entertaining It would be great if it had an offline map for the selected area. Since I didn't have data while I was visiting, what came up was just a grid with the locations indicated. So it became more like a treasure map. The best part is you're able to compare your own image of the city with an overlay automatically added from years ago. I didn't quite get to finish since my schedule was packed with tours out of the city, but it was a huge help in getting me out, learning about the history, and seeing some sites!
