You will never have an advantage even on the easiest difficulty (unless you pay for gold which mind you, the actual prices are higher than what the game tells you), and there is no use for any unit except the expensive units (and the cannoneers on the renaissance age, and also the machine gunners and grenadiers on the WW1 stage). Awful game, don't bother playing.
