WhatsBack: Deleted Messages

Someone deleted a WhatsApp message before you read it? WhatsBack helps you view deleted messages by keeping a copy of supported message notifications received on your Android phone.

Set up WhatsBack before messages arrive. If the sender later deletes a message, you can read the notification text that WhatsBack already saved. Messages deleted before installation or before capture cannot be recovered.

NOTIFICATION HISTORY ON YOUR PHONE
WhatsBack is a notification history and message saver. It saves the text Android makes available through Notification Access, so you can find supported notifications after they disappear from your notification panel.

SIMPLE SETUP
1. Install and open WhatsBack.
2. Enable Notification Access so it can capture supported message notifications.
3. Keep message notifications and their text previews enabled.
4. Receive new messages, then open WhatsBack to browse or search your saved history.

Allow WhatsBack to run in the background where your device settings require it. Battery restrictions can prevent notifications from being processed.

CONTROL YOUR SAVED HISTORY
Captured notification content is stored locally on your device. You can remove individual saved messages or clear the history in the app. WhatsBack does not need access to private encrypted messaging databases to save notification text.

PLEASE READ BEFORE INSTALLING
Message recovery works only for notification content WhatsBack has already captured. It cannot restore old deleted chats, retrieve messages from WhatsApp servers or restore a chat backup into WhatsApp.

A message may not be saved if:
• Notification Access is off.
• The chat is muted or notifications are disabled.
• You are viewing the conversation and no notification appears.
• Notification previews are hidden or Android does not provide the text.
• The notification format is unsupported.
• Device or battery settings stop background processing.

Compatibility depends on the messaging app, Android version and device. Recovery of photos, videos, voice notes, stickers, GIFs or documents is not guaranteed; media that was not made available to WhatsBack cannot be recovered.
