World Rain Radar uses multiple sources of data, not one map for the whole world. This gives you the most recent data for your location. Therefore, World Rain Radar works best when zooming in to your local area.
World Rain Radar uses real doppler observations and only falls back to satellite sourced data for areas without any doppler radars present.

Not a very good or accurate app. Sky has been overcast here with some heavy clouds and precipitation since 8pm last night, but your app has shown clear skies. Seems it only works if your cloud map and actual conditions coincidentally are the same. Seems I can do better by looking out the window!
