- Click words and expressions in closed captions in Finnish and get language support to six common immigrant languages. For closed captions in Swedish get language support to twenty-five common immigrant languages. See full lists below. - Read the closed captions separately with integrated language exercises - Get recommended programs for those new to the language and Finland. - Use smart filters to find program of right LENGTH (short or long) and DIFFICULTY (easy, intermediate, difficult) - Get a list of your latest viewed programs for easy access and repetition - Explore your vocabulary in a visual overview and follow the progress of your own Learning profile - Gamification: monitor your activity with graphs and set personal learning goals - Optionally connect or register a user account for back-up and synchronizing your Learning profile.
In onboarding enter your current language level (CEFR scale) : A1 (beginner) if you understand very common words and simple sentences A2 (basic) if you can read short and simple texts B1 (intermediate) if you can understand texts with everyday language B2 (upper intermediate) if you can read texts about modern problems and different views C1 (advanced) if you can understand long and complex texts with different styles C2 (fluent) if you can understand all kinds of texts

I've been waiting for an app like this! Amazing way to learn Finnish while watching TV, with words in subtitles highlighted according to your level, the ability to save words, mark as learned, etc. Particularly cool that you can cast to your TV while viewing the subtitles on your phone as well.

Unique tool for learning Finnish language based on Yle videos. When you watch any documentary/series/news via Yle Kielikoulu "subtitles" in Finnish are shown that include simultaneous translation of some more advanced words (based on your language skills level). You can save new words to your word list and do volubly exercises based on the text generated from videos. There are pretty cool statistics of how many words you have learned/read and your progress reports/badges. This app is fun!

When I try to learn Finnish, the whole show muumilaakso has Swedish audio track and finnish subtitles. How am I supposed to learn?

This app has huge potential, but hard to use for beginners atm: 1) The translations are too basic e.g. "Ostia" translates as "buy", not "bought", or "I bought". As a result, I don't trust it for learning and the sentences often make no sense after translating. 2) Floating words are a messy jumble. Maybe it'd work better if the words were replaced inline when you tap them? 3) Very fiddly to use on a phone e.g. skipping sentences back/forwards, the popup dialog gets in the way of things etc
