1WRD

1WRD shows you one word at a time, exactly where your eye already is. Instead of sweeping across lines, you hold still and the text comes to you. Most people comfortably double their reading speed within a few sessions, with full comprehension.

The focal letter of every word is tinted and locked to the same point on screen, so your eye never moves. That is the whole trick, and 1WRD does it properly: each word is measured with the same typesetting engine that draws it, so the anchor is pixel-exact, not roughly centred.

READ ANYTHING
• EPUB books, with chapters and the book's own cover art
• PDF, including outlines and clean-up of hard-wrapped lines
• Word, RTF, Markdown, HTML and plain text
• Web articles by address, with the page chrome stripped away
• Anything you share from Safari, Books, Mail or Notes
• Free public-domain catalogs such as Project Gutenberg, and any OPDS server you run yourself, with password, token or API-key sign-in

READ NATURALLY
• Pacing that slows for commas, pauses at full stops and breathes at paragraph breaks
• A gentle ease-in every time you start, so it never feels like a jolt
• Quotes and brackets shown as edge markers instead of cluttering the word
• One, two or three words per flash, 100 to 1,200 words per minute

STAY IN CONTROL
• Tap to start and stop. Hold to pause and see the whole sentence, slide left or right to step word by word, release to carry on
• Drag sideways to scrub, drag up or down to change speed, with haptic detents
• Chapter list with progress per chapter; long-press the skip buttons to jump a chapter
• Your place is saved in every document

MAKE IT YOURS
• Serif, sans, rounded or mono type, in the size you like
• A warm paper theme and a true dark theme, or follow the system
• Library as cards or as a gallery of covers

SEE YOURSELF IMPROVE
• Speed per session on a chart, with the trend against last week
• Minutes per day, streaks, records and the time you have saved
• Every session logged, and a comparison with a typical reader

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
1WRD is free. There are no accounts, no subscriptions, no ads and no tracking. Everything you read stays on your device. Nothing is uploaded, sold or used to train anything.

If 1WRD helps you read more, you can buy the developer a coffee from the settings screen. That is the only ask.
