8BitsTerm is a native SSH terminal for iPhone and iPad, built around keeping the output that matters.

RECORD AND FIND
Tap Record before a build, a deploy or a log check, then search the capture later and jump straight to the line you need. Captures are kept per server, 10 to 100 of them, your choice. Manual Copy selects text from the shell or from tmux history and copies it to the iOS clipboard. Compatible remote applications can also write to the clipboard through OSC 52.

SNIPPETS AND SHORTCUTS
Save reusable text as Snippets, organized in sections, and paste one into any connected session. Text Shortcuts paste stored text at the prompt without running it. Key Sequences send key combos in one tap, with ready-made presets for the shell, tmux, GNU Screen, Emacs and Vim. Put your four favorites on the Keypad Buttons.

A KEYBOARD MADE FOR THE SHELL
The 8BT keyboard adds a terminal key row with esc, tab, ctrl, alt and an arrow joystick, plus one-tap Record, Manual Copy and Paste. On wider screens it adds a number pad and symbols beside the letters. Hardware keyboards work too, with Command-1 to Command-9 to switch sessions.

CONNECTIONS
Save hosts, color-code them and find them with search, or use Quick Connect with user@host or a pasted ssh command. Keep several live sessions open and switch between them; on iPad they sit in tabs along the top. An optional port-knocking sequence, TCP or UDP in order, runs before the SSH connection begins.

COMMAND RECALL
Optional and off by default. Command Recall searches your remote bash, zsh and fish history together with your Text Shortcuts. Results narrow as you type, and choosing one fills the command line without running it. When you turn it on for a server, it adds a small prompt hook to that server's shell configuration. Recall history stays on your device and never syncs through iCloud.

TERMINAL
xterm-256color with ANSI and 256-color rendering, tmux-friendly mouse input and precise selection. Ten theme families in dark and light, an optional pure-black background, and four fonts, including the bundled JetBrains Mono Nerd Font for decorated prompts and tmux status lines. Pinch to change the text size. A short built-in guide with video clips shows each feature.

SECURITY AND PRIVACY
Passwords and SSH keys are stored in Apple Keychain. Generate, import, export and choose Ed25519 keys; RSA and ECDSA keys are not supported, and passphrase-protected keys must be decrypted before import. Servers are remembered on first connection, and a changed host key is blocked until you review it. App Lock protects sessions, hosts, captures and snippets with an app password and optional Face ID. Optional iCloud sync, off by default, syncs your hosts through iCloud and your passwords and keys through end-to-end encrypted iCloud Keychain.

8BitsTerm connects directly to SSH servers you control or are authorized to use. There is no 8BitsForge account, relay or hosting service. No ads. No tracking. No analytics.
