Aeola: Generative Soundscapes

Aeola plays calm, ever-changing sound for focus, rest and sleep. The music and the noise are generated live on your device, and the nature sounds are synthesized or recombined from real recordings as they play, so nothing runs on a loop.

PICK A SCENE
• Soft Synths and Soft Keys: warm pads and slow melodies.
• Piano: a sampled grand or upright piano plays Mozart's dice-game minuets or pieces composed as it plays.
• Rain, Ocean, Wind, Forest and Fireplace, with soft music underneath or on their own.
• Noise in white, pink, brown and green, alone or mixed.
• Trance, Electro and Hardstyle when you need energy.

SET THE MOOD
Focus adds a steady, gentle pulse. Relax drops the beat for slow, wide pads. Sleep plays sparse, deep notes and fades down over about 25 minutes. Recovery rises and falls six times a minute, like slow breathing. A line under the mood tells you exactly what it changes.

SLEEP JOURNEY
One continuous program for falling asleep, 20 to 60 minutes long: soft bells first, then a slow swell that turns into dark waves of noise, a little quieter and darker every minute. It ends in soft noise until morning or a fade to silence, your choice.

MOZART'S DICE GAME
In a game printed in 1793 and credited to Mozart, two dice pick each bar of a minuet from 176 bars written in advance. Aeola rolls the dice for you and plays every bar as printed, so almost every minuet is new.

REAL RECORDINGS, NEVER A LOOP
Fireplace, Forest and Wind use freely licensed nature recordings (CC0 and public domain). Aeola recombines them live from random moments and scatters single pops and birdsong on top. The authors are credited in Settings.

MAKE IT YOURS

Keep Aeola in a window or in the menu bar only, with the whole app one click away. Keyboard shortcuts, media keys and launch at login.

ON IPHONE
Keeps playing with the screen locked, with controls on the Lock Screen and in Control Center. Pauses for calls and when you unplug your headphones.
