Spin a 3D globe, tap a glowing pin, and see what actually lives there.
All the Animals is a wildlife reference organized by place rather than by alphabet. Most guides are arranged taxonomically, which works well if you already know what you are looking for. This one starts from the question people actually ask - what lives here? - because habitat explains most of what an animal is. A polar bear's fur, a fennec fox's ears and a camel's kidneys are all answers to the same problem posed by very different places.
WHAT'S INSIDE
- An interactive 3D globe you can spin and zoom, with a glowing pin for each habitat
- 32 habitats, from the Amazon rainforest to the Antarctic ice, each with its climate and landscape
- 91 featured animals with a photograph, key stats, fun facts and a full written profile covering behavior, diet, breeding and conservation
- IUCN Red List conservation status on every featured animal
- Search by common or scientific name, or just describe it - "white bear" finds the polar bear - and small typos are forgiven
- Filter a habitat or your search results by animal group
- A random-animal button for when you would rather just be surprised
- A Wikipedia link on each animal for further reading
- With Unlock everything: 6,594 more wild species from iNaturalist's open data, across all 32 habitats
HOW IT WORKS
Pick a region and you get a short introduction, its climate, its landscape and the animals found there - the featured animals first, then the wild species once you have unlocked them. Tap a featured animal for its photograph, its stats and a written profile: where it lives, how it feeds and breeds, what marks it out, and how it is faring. Wild species come with a photograph, a common name where one exists, the scientific name, their animal group, their diet where it is known, and the regions where they have been recorded.
WHAT IS FREE, AND WHAT IS NOT
Free: the globe, all 32 habitats with their climate and landscape, the search, and the 91 featured animals with their written profiles, supported by a single banner ad at the bottom of the screen. The featured animals live in 16 of the habitats; the other 16, from Patagonia to New Zealand, are filled in by the unlock.
Unlock everything is a one-time in-app purchase. It adds the remaining 6,594 wild species across all 32 habitats - insects, birds, fish, mammals, reptiles, spiders and more - brings them into search, the filters and the random-animal button, and removes the ad. There is no subscription, nothing recurring, and no account to create. You buy it once and it stays yours; Restore purchase brings it back on a new device signed in to the same Apple Account.
LANGUAGES
The interface is translated into 25 languages. It starts in your device's language, and you can switch it in the app. In French and German, habitat names, conservation statuses, diets and animal groups are translated as well. Animal names, profiles and habitat descriptions stay in English, as do some labels in the other languages.
PHOTOGRAPHS AND DATA
The wild species records and every photograph come from iNaturalist contributors under Creative Commons licenses (CC0, CC BY or CC BY-SA). Each animal's page shows its photo credit, with links to the license and to the original photo on iNaturalist. Conservation statuses follow the IUCN Red List. The written profiles are original to this app. Photographs need an internet connection to load.
PRIVACY
There is no account and there is no server of ours, so nothing about you is sent to us, and we run no analytics of our own. The banner ad in the free version is served by Google AdMob: where the law requires it, Google's consent form appears first, and iOS asks whether you allow tracking - you can say no. Unlock everything removes the ad.
